“And thus you will dance to your death here, on this hilltop, at the end of the day. An din your last dance you will tell of your struggle, of the battles you have won and of those you have lost; you will tell of your joys and bewilderments upon encountering personal power. Your dance will tell about the secrets and about the marvels you have stored. And your death will sit here and watch you.”
Carlos Castaneda

Journey to Ixtlan

light layers

In our recent visit to Berlin we used to projections within the same performance space. This rendered a new quality of stage landscape and a special lighting quality that feeds on the space itself.

You can see all these elements come into play in the sequence in which Marlen starts off with a background image taken within the space just seconds before. The images that begin to create additional layers – until in the end the photographic process and images became an independent piece.

You can view the culminating image of this sequence and other images from this workshop here.

A week later during a performance back in Israel, we were again using two projectors in the space and this time one of the projectors became a lighting tool in it’s own right, while the second continued projecting in the background.

In this image you can see Shahar lit by the same image that is projected in the background:

and then Shahar’s face lit by a similar previous image – seconds later this very image was projected into the space and onto Shahar:
